Gerlitzen Alpe

Plan the trip
A mountain above the Ossiacher See in Carinthia with one of the sunniest positions in Austria and a view that takes in lakes, the Julian Alps and the Karawanks. The terrain is wide and mostly intermediate with long descents and a good beginner area, and the mountain is popular with paragliders in summer for the same reasons it works in winter.
The lake below freezes in cold winters and is used for skating, which is an unusual combination with a day on the hill. Villach is around half an hour away and the Carinthian thermal spas are close by. Prices are moderate and the crowds are mostly regional.
